Edward Mermelstein

Edward Alexander Mermelstein is a distinguished attorney, real estate developer, and financial investment advisor, currently serving as New York City’s Commissioner for International Affairs. As the founder of One & Only Realty, its investment arm One & Only Holdings, and the boutique law firm Rheem Bell & Mermelstein, he has spent over two decades advising foreign investors on high-stakes acquisitions and complex international transactions. His expertise has made him a sought-after media commentator, with appearances on CNBC, Fox Business, and Reuters, and contributions to publications like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes.

Born in Ukraine, Mermelstein emigrated to the United States in 1976, where he attended the Bronx High School of Science before earning a psychology degree from NYU and studying law at Thomas Cooley Law School. His relentless drive and adaptability, shaped by early challenges as an immigrant, fueled his ascent in New York’s competitive real estate and legal markets. Recognized as a “power attorney” and a “certified triple threat in the real estate world,” he has successfully merged law, finance, and development to create a lasting impact on the industry.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mermelstein is deeply committed to philanthropy, having served as Chairman Emeritus of COJECO, a board member of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, and a mentor to young professionals in real estate. His leadership extends to international humanitarian efforts, including his tenure as President of ZAKA. From overcoming early hardships to shaping global investment strategies, Mermelstein’s story is a testament to perseverance, innovation, and the pursuit of a unique vision in New York City.
